1/ Centered on the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula in North America is the city of greater Miami.
2/ In recent years a new curiosity has surfaced among the inhabitants of this great city as to the historic identity of the original natives that once lived throughout this subtropical realm. 3/ This new curiosity is founded on a desire to better understand the social origins of Florida's first notable Indian tribe - the Mayami. 4/ The question as to what actually became of the Mayaimi tribe has also added to this new curiosity. 5/ As participants in this new quest for knowledge, may we embark upon a voyage through the local history of southern Florida and explore the cultural origins of the first Miamians.
